Philipp Max signing could fix major Leeds United problem - pundit

Kevin Campbell has claimed Philipp Max would provide much-needed “experience” in a “very young” Leeds United squad.

The former Arsenal striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, suggested too many of the senior stars at Elland Road are “on the treatment table a lot”.

Sources told this site on Monday (12 December) that Leeds United are plotting a move for PSV Eindhoven star Max ahead of the January window.

It is understood that the Whites are in the market for a new left-back capable of slotting straight into their starting XI after having to rely on natural centre-back Pascal Struijk for the first portion of this season.

Three-cap Germany international Max has a contract that runs until the summer of 2024 – and is believed to earn around £30,000-a-week amid financial problems at PSV.

Campbell told Football Insider’s Ewan Kingsbury: “A bit of experience is what is lacking at Leeds.

“The experience they have seems to be on the treatment table a lot, and that’s not right. You can’t legislate for that, but it’s not right.

“This team is very young. It needs a bit more seasoning to it, and that’s what Philipp Max would bring.

“He’s an international, he’s seen it all in two top leagues – he’d be a good signing.”

Leeds United sit 15th in the Premier League after 14 games this season – and resume action against Man City on 28 December.

Natural left-back Junior Firpo has struggled for fitness and form in the 2022-23 campaign – making just two top-flight appearances.
