Newcastle United 'preparing for the Champions League' after Antonee Robinson update - pundit

Kevin Campbell has claimed Newcastle United are “preparing for the Champions League” as Eddie Howe targets Fulham ace Antonee Robinson.

The former Arsenal striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, insisted Howe is adding “quality” in order to build a “flexible” squad ahead of potential European involvement.

According to TEAMtalk (5 December), Newcastle are preparing to raid Fulham to sign United States international Robinson, 25.

The former Wigan star has just over 18 months left to run on his Craven Cottage contract.

He played every minute for the US at this year’s World Cup as they fell 3-1 against the Netherlands in the Round of 16 on Saturday (3 December).

The lightning-quick full-back has started 13 of Fulham’s 15 Premier League games this term as they sit ninth following promotion last season.

Dan Burn has started the lion’s share of games at left-back for Newcastle this term despite being a natural centre-back.

Campbell told Football Insider’s Ewan Kingsbury: “Eddie Howe is trying to add more and more quality to this squad.

“He’s already got Dan Burn, a player who can play across that defence, through the middle or at left-back.

“He’s trying to build a flexible, big squad. Howe is preparing for the Champions League.

“Robinson has been very good. He had a great World Cup, and he’s been really impressive for Fulham.

“It’s going to be very interesting indeed to see how Newcastle move in January and the summer.”

In other news, pundit fears for Newcastle United after Callum Wilson development that “could ruin their season”.
