Gianluca Scamacca could now quit West Ham after Italy update - pundit

Kevin Campbell has refused to rule out the possibility of Gianluca Scamacca leaving West Ham after his mixed start to life at the club.

The former Arsenal striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, insisted it is not a “surprise” to see clubs in Italy show an interest in the 23-year-old.

According to journalist Ciro Venerato (via AreaNapoli, 29 November), Napoli are monitoring Scamacca in case they receive a suitable bid for coveted striker Victor Osimhen in the January window.

The Italy international only signed for West Ham in July – with the London club paying Sassuolo a reported £35.5million for his services.

He has scored just two Premier League goals in 756 minutes of action – with the Irons currently sitting just one point above the relegation zone.

Scamacca has had better luck in European competition, scoring four goals in seven European Conference League outings.

Campbell told Football Insider’s Ewan Kingsbury: “Listen, I think he’s done alright.

“The results haven’t been great for West Ham – but he’s learning a new league and he’s been a difference-maker at times.

“It’s only his first season – I don’t know what people expect.

“But I’m not surprised to see clubs in Serie A looking at him. He’s an international, did well in Italy last season.

“He’s not fully integrated into that West Ham system yet, and he has looked a bit isolated at times.

“If the likes of Napoli test the water, come in with a bid – you just never know.

“It could always happen – but I don’t think West Ham will have any regrets about signing him.”
