Rangers braced for Michael Beale departure amid Premier League claim - pundit

Kevin Campbell has claimed Rangers will expect swift approaches from Premier League clubs if Michael Beale’s appointment proves to be a success.

The former Arsenal striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, suggested the lure of the English top flight will be too much despite the Gers being a “huge club”.

Rangers confirmed the appointment of Beale on Monday (28 November) – just weeks after the 42-year-old earned plaudits for turning down a move to Premier League club Wolves.

As per video from Sky Sports (20 October), Beale claimed he “couldn’t be the first to run away from” QPR after asking everyone to be “all-in” following his appointment over the off-season.

He won nine of his 21 matches in charge at Loftus Road – his first job in senior management.

Campbell cited Steven Gerrard, who left Ibrox for Aston Villa just months after winning the Scottish Premiership title for the first time.

He told Football Insider’s Ewan Kingsbury: “I think Rangers will know the nature of the beast.

“They’re a huge club, but the competition is the problem.

“If Beale does really well and even half of what Steven Gerrard, you can imagine there will be at least one Premier League side knocking his door down.

“I know he turned down jobs in the past, but managers want to work at the highest level.

“I think if he does well, Rangers will know what is coming. It’s happened before.”
