Roman Abramovich cited as Liverpool work on 'mega' deal - 'I'm sure they'll come to an agreement'

A move to Liverpool could “tempt” Mason Mount after he reportedly rejected a new Chelsea deal under a new regime operating in a different way to Roman Abramovich.

The former Arsenal striker Kevin Campbell, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, claimed the 23-year-old may have been left “disappointed” by the Blues’ offer after “outplaying” his current deal.

According to the Daily Mail (25 November), Mount rejected a £200,000-a-week deal before jetting off to the World Cup with England.

The report claims the midfielder, whose current deal is set to expire in June 2024, wants parity with fellow Blues star Raheem Sterling – who earns £350,000-a-week.

Mount has been linked with Liverpool. Man City, and Juventus as clubs monitor his precarious contract situation.

Campbell claimed contract negotiations at Chelsea “aren’t the same” since the departure of former owner Roman Abramovich.

He told Football Insider’s Ewan Kingsbury: “Mount has outplayed his contract.

“He’s won the Champions League and done very well at Chelsea. If they’re not offering the type of contract he wants, he might be tempted to try his luck somewhere else – like a Liverpool or a Man City.

“He might have been disappointed by that offer. Normally you don’t see too many negotiations with players like him, it’s just a case of getting him signed up.

“We’ve seen Rudiger leave Chelsea, now Mount hasn’t signed. I’m sure they’ll come to an agreement, but things aren’t the same at Stamford Bridge now Roman Abramovich has left.

“Before, these mega deals would be wrapped up easily – there was no messing around.”
