Contact made: Tottenham backed to finalise Denzel Dumfries deal - pundit

Kevin Campbell has claimed right-back Denzel Dumfries would be a “really good signing” for Tottenham if they can head off “challengers” in January.

The former Arsenal striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, hailed the 26-year-old’s impressive performances for the Netherlands away at the World Cup in Qatar.

According to 90min (29 November), Tottenham have “made enquiries” about the availability of Inter Milan right-back Dumfries.

The report claims summer signing Djed Spence, who is yet to start a game for Spurs, is likely to exit the club on loan in the January window.

Dumfries, who has started all three games for the Netherlands at the World Cup, is out of contract in June 2025.

The wing-back has registered two goals and three assists for Antonio Conte’s old side Inter this season.

Campbell told Football Insider’s Ewan Kingsbury: “I really like him.

“He’s not doing his chances of a move any harm at the moment with his performances for Holland. He’s doing them the world of good with the way he’s playing.

“He is big, strong, athletic – and he can play. There will be challengers because he’s a good player.

“But it’d be a really good signing if Spurs could get him.”

Emerson Royal is Conte’s first choice in the right wing-back berth at present but has faced criticism from his own fans for his performances.

Spurs return to Premier League action against Brentford on 26 December.
