Pundit suggests new Michael Beale doubts as Rangers 'backlash' revealed by Ibrox source

Kevin Campbell has suggested the pressure of the Rangers hot seat could be too much for Michael Beale with the QPR boss still “learning on the job”.

The former Arsenal striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, suggested the former Ibrox coach may be reluctant to take the job after rejecting “overtures” from the Premier League earlier this season.

This site revealed on Friday (25 November) that the club are growing increasingly concerned about a backlash among supporters towards appointing Beale – but he is still the frontrunner for the job.

Fans have highlighted the 42-year-old’s lack of experience in senior management as well as a mixed spell at QPR so far this term.

The Glasgow giants are searching for a new boss after dispensing with Giovanni van Bronckhorst on Monday (21 November).

Beale was part of Steven Gerrard’s coaching staff when Rangers won their first Scottish Premiership title in 10 years.

Campbell suggested the London-born boss would be under “massive” pressure to repeat that feat.

He told Football Insider’s Ewan Kingsbury: “It’s difficult to know if Beale is the best man for the job.

“He’s had success at Rangers before, yes – but only as a coach.

“I think he’s learning on the job right now, doing well at QPR – but Rangers is a completely different animal. It’s a massive club.

“He had overtures from the Premier League, from Wolves, and he turned it down.

“I can’t see him taking this job. He’s got a good project going at QPR and the pressure is slightly less than it would be at Ibrox.”
