Sources: Goldson rejects Rangers offer and could join English club in January

Connor Goldson has rejected a Rangers contract offer and is eyeing a Premier League return, Football Insider understands.

The future of the centre-back, 28, is up in the air with his current agreement expiring at the end of the season.

Ibrox sources have told Football Insider that Goldson has knocked back the club’s offer of an extension amid interest from south of the border.

The former Brighton defender is keen to return to England and play in the English top flight.

Hope among the club hierarchy earlier in the season that Goldson would sign an extension has evaporated in recent months.

They wanted the central defender to put pen to paper before the last window shut.

Rangers director of football Ross Wilson recently revealed at the club’s AGM that the club were unwilling to break their pay structure for any player.

Goldson now holds all the aces in contract negotiations as he can use his expiring deal to sign a pre-contract with a cross-border club in January or head out on a free next summer.

The Rangers board considered that more palatable than losing him for even a multi-million pound fee last summer (2021).

Goldson has barely missed a match during his four seasons at Rangers.

Goldson has racked up a remarkable 186 appearances for Rangers and has started 25 of their matches this season, including last night’s clash at Hibernian.

In other news, Rangers have opened talks with sensation and want deal done by 1 January.
