Pundit 'thrilled' by Leeds undroppable who's now 'as important as Phillips'

Noel Whelan has claimed Adam Forshaw is almost undroppable at Leeds United after returning from injury.

The former Leeds striker and club ambassador, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, boldly claimed the midfielder is as important to the Whites as Kalvin Phillips.

As Phil Hay after the 1-0 win over Crystal Palace (Novmber 30), Marcelo Bielsa confessed he did not expect Forshaw to hit the levels he has since returning from injury.

A hip injury meant Forshaw did not play for Leeds for over two years, but he has started the Whites’ last four games.

Whelan insisted the Liverpool-born midfielder had become almost undroppable.

Asked if he thought Leeds should be wary of overloading Forshaw, Whelan told Football Insider’s Russell Edge: “Adam will guide the club, the manager, the fitness assessors.

“Right now it doesn’t look like it’s struggling. It looks like he’s embracing every second. He can guide everybody on that one.

“I certainly wouldn’t be taking him out of the team the way he’s playing right now, just to be precautionary with him. What a very important player out there for us right now.

“When you’re talking about controlling the midfield and that competitive nature, I think you need him in. You need him as much on the team sheet right now as Kalvin Phillips. That’s how important is to the side.

“Really thrilled that he’s getting the game time, really thrilled with his levels of performances.

“He’s even getting further forward where he’s getting shots off. None have been on target as yet but that will come. You can see his confidence building every game.”

Forshaw has played a total of nine times across all competitions this season.

Leeds also have Mateusz Klich, Jamie Shackleton, Pascal Struijk and Stuart Dallas to call upon in central midfield.
