Liverpool could seal 'perfect' Traore deal after Klopp stance confirmed - pundit

Liverpool could be tempted to seal a deal for Adama Traore in January, according to Noel Whelan.

The former Leeds striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, insisted the 25-year-old could play a part in the Anfield club’s “title charge”.

This site exclusively revealed last month (30 November) that Liverpool are on red alert as Wolves prepare to slash Traore’s asking price in the January window.

A Wolves source has told Football Insider that a deal could be done for around £20m, potentially even £18m after Liverpool’s approach earlier in the year.

As quoted by The Athletic (24 January 2020), Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp is a fan of Traore and labelled the Spaniard “unplayable”.

Whelan insisted January could present the “perfect opportunity” for Klopp to get his man.

“There will definitely be a temptation at Liverpool,” he told Football Insider‘s Ewan Kingsbury.

“When you look at Diogo Jota, Divock Origi and Roberto Firmino – that’s a formidable front three. But they will need backup. One injury to that front line and they won’t know where to turn.

“But if they’re going to continue to mount this title charge then they are going to need another player in there.

“It’s no secret that Jurgen Klopp is a huge admirer of Traore, it’s been talked about for months if not years.

“This could be the perfect opportunity. It’ll certainly be tempting for Klopp if he is available at that price.”

Liverpool are locked in a three-way title battle with Chelsea and Man City – with two points separating first and third.

Traore has made 15 Premier League appearances this term but has failed to score or assist.
