Carney Chukwuemeka: Aston Villa may be resigned to losing wonderkid after news - Agbonlahor

The Aston Villa hierarchy may have already offered Carney Chukwuemeka the best possible contract and could be resigned to losing him.

That is the view of Aston Villa’s record Premier League goalscorer Gabby Agbonlahor, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about Chukwuemeka’s situation.

The Athletic reported last Friday (11 March) that the 18-year-old is set to decide his long-term future at the end of the season.

His current deal expires at the end of next season after he signed a three-year deal when he turned 17 in 2020.

“It’s very hard,” Agbonlahor told Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley.

“Aston Villa are probably in a position where they have offered the best contract they feel they can offer.

“Sometimes it comes down to the player, if the player and his agent don’t want to sign that contract there is not much more than the club can do.

“I’m sure Villa will have done their best. They want to keep him hungry as well. They don’t want to give him too much too soon.

“Hopefully, he will sign a contract but if not I’m sure the club will know they have tried their hardest.

“100 per cent Aston Villa would be the best place for him but you don’t know what’s going through the player’s mind, the agent’s mind.

“Hopefully, as a Villa fan, he does sign and stays at Aston Villa.”

Chukwuemeka has now played 11 times across all competitions for Villa’s senior side after making his debut at the end of the 2020-21 campaign.

The England youth international has made eight substitute Premier League appearances under Steven Gerrard.

In other news, Brighton & Hove Albion have set their sights on signing a £25million Aston Villa star this summer.
