Leeds United news: Medical expert issues 'big' Tyler Roberts claim after surgery update

The timing of Tyler Roberts’ recent operation at Leeds United will give him a “big advantage” ahead of next season.

That is the view of injury expert Ben Dinnery, who runs the Premier Injuries site and has a background in medicine and data analysis.

Roberts, 23, suffered hamstring damage in Leeds’ 1-0 defeat to Leicester City earlier this month (5 March).

Per Leeds Live on Monday (14 March), Jesse Marsch confirmed that Roberts has had “successful surgery” and would be out for at least “three months”.

But Dinnery explains why the timing of the Welsh attacking midfielder’s procedure will stand him in good stead ahead of 2022-23.

“If things go well, it could be a big advantage ahead of pre-season,” he told Football Insider‘s Adam Williams.

“He can hit the ground running if he is back around June. He may have a week off and a reset but then he’ll be straight back at it.

“He will have been working hard when a lot of his teammates will have been easing back. He will have maintained his baseline levels of fitness as a result.

“He might see this as a good opportunity to start working and be ready for this coming campaign in a really good place.”

Roberts has registered one goal and one assist in 26 appearances across all competitions this season.

Leeds, who are 16th in the Premier League, are in action away at Wolves this evening (19 March).
