Man City are trying to sign the 'wrong' striker after Sky's Harry Kane update - pundit

Man City should target Erling Haaland instead of Harry Kane this summer.

That’s according to former West Ham hitman Frank McAvennie, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about City’s hunt for a striker.

As per Sky in Germany (16 March), Man City are prioritising a move for Kane, 28, over a swoop for Haaland, 21.

The England captain was heavily linked with a move to The Etihad in the summer of 2021 but a deal could not be agreed with Tottenham.

Man City’s only out and out striker is Gabriel Jesus, 24, who has scored six goals in 28 games this season.

Given a choice between Haaland and Kane, McAvennie insists City should sign Haaland.

“I can see why they would want Kane, he’s Premier League proven,” McAvennie told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.

“I do worry about Kane at City though. At the Euros, he never scored when playing with Foden and Sterling.

“He got those goals when Saka came in, so that would be a worry for me.

“Maybe he doesn’t work with those players. Haaland hasn’t played in the Premier League but there is no reason to think he wouldn’t come in and dominate.

“He’s already world-class and he’s still a boy. He has his whole career ahead of him while Kane is older.

“I think Kane might be the wrong option but let’s face it, either player would be an amazing signing.”

Haaland has scored 23 goals in 22 games for Borussia Dortmund this season.

Kane has scored 22 goals in 40 games with his latest coming against Brighton on Wednesday (16 March).

In other news, pundit claims Gabriel Jesus will be “fuming” after he’s axed by Man City.
