Sources: Newcastle United tell Jamal Lewis to find new club as asking price revealed

Newcastle United will tell Jamal Lewis he is free to find a new club ahead of the summer, Football Insider understands.

This site broke the news on 1 February that the 24-year-old was to be omitted from United’s revised Premier League squad after their January signing spree.

Now a Newcastle source has told Football Insider that the club have decided they will let Lewis go as part of a major summer overhaul.

It is said that a fee of around £8million will be enough to seal a deal for the left-back.

That would represent a significant loss for Newcastle, who signed Lewis from Norwich City in the summer of 2020 for £13.5m.

He was available for loan in January but rejected deadline-day moves to Stoke City and Birmingham City.

The Northern Irishman is under contract at St. James’ Park until 2025.

The defender has only made five appearances this season with four of those coming under Eddie Howe.

Lewis played the full 90 minutes as the Magpies picked up their first win of the season against Burnley on 4 December.

He has struggled to keep fit throughout his Toon career owing to a groin issue he sustained shortly after moving to the North-East.

Howe revealed on 9 March, as per Chronicle Live, that Lewis “is in Germany getting assessed and looked at by a groin specialist.”

Lewis has made 32 total appearances for Newcastle since joining the club from Norwich.

He has failed to score and has only picked up a solitary assist.

In other news, two Newcastle United stars who started against Everton have also been tipped to leave this summer.
