Marcus Rashford: Pundit issues 'shocking' claim as controversial Man United footage analysed

Marcus Rashford must focus on his football after he was forced to clear up another controversy involving Man United fans.

That’s according to former West Ham hitman Frank McAvennie, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about the attacker’s latest statement.

Rashford, 24, was confronted by fans after his side crashed out of the Champions League against Atletico Madrid on Tuesday (15 March).

In a video posted to Twitter, the striker gestured to the crowd of fans, with some suggesting he showed them his middle finger.

In a statement posted the next day, Rashford clarified that didn’t swear at the fans but admitted he should not have interacted with them at all.

McAvennie insists Rashford should shut those fans up by performing on the pitch.

“He’s been terrible, and this is coming from someone who is a big fan of his. I like him,” McAvennie told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.

“He’s always apologising for stuff, there is always something.

“It’s ever since he got involved with the Government, his head hasn’t been in it.

“He’s barely kicked a ball. I have no problem with what he’s done, it’s actually really great.

“But he’s being paid God knows how much, to be a footballer and he has been shocking this season.

“This is just another thing that he didn’t need or want after another poor game.

“I’m a firm believer that you should do your talking on the pitch. Rashford hasn’t done that.

“The best way to overcome this is to work hard and shut these guys up by scoring a couple of goals.

“He needs to focus on being a footballer and the perfornances will come.”
