Ryan Kent: Rangers hero is now the club's 'biggest problem' - Glasgow pundit

Ryan Kent’s Premiership form is Rangers’ “biggest problem” after he dazzled on the European stage against Red Star Belgrade.

That’s according to former Celtic hitman Frank McAvennie, speaking exclusively to Football Insider after the attacker scored in the Gers’ latest game.

Kent’s goal was enough to help Rangers into the quarter-finals of the Europa League despite their 2-1 loss to Red Star on Thursday (17 March).

This was the 25-year-old’s first goal in European competitions this season.

However, he has provided six assists in his 10 European outings this season and dominated in both legs against Borussia Dortmund.

McAvennie insists Kent must do more in his domestic performances as Rangers look to hunt down Celtic at the top of the Premiership.

“That’s the biggest problem, for me,” McAvennie told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.

“There is a big difference between this generation and my generation.

“We were up for every game but some of these players seem to turn it on and off depending on who they are playing.

“He’s a big player for Rangers and he lights up in Europe, he needs to do more in Scotland.

“He does face more of a challenge in Scotland, to be fair. He always has so many players on him.

“Kent gets more room in Europe but he is so easy to deal with, just stick another man on him.

“I imagine he won’t have that freedom in the next round so we will have to see what happens.

“I just want to see a bit more from him in the league, or at least Rangers fans will want that.”
