Celtic news: McAvennie shares 'brilliant' thing Callum McGregor told him yesterday on the golf course

Callum McGregor is “raring to go” ahead of a busy end to the season at Celtic.

That’s according to former Hoops hitman Frank McAvennie, speaking exclusively to Football Insider after he bumped into the Celtic captain on Thursday (17 March).

McGregor, 28, has made 43 appearances for Celtic this season, only failing to make the squad for seven games so far.

He’s scored four goals and chipped in with four assists as Celtic look to add more silverware after their Scottish League Cup success in December.

McAvennie insists McGregor and his teammates are ready for a title push as games start to come thick and fast before the end of the campaign.

“I spoke to him yesterday and he’s raring to go,” McAvennie told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.

“That’s brilliant to hear. He was out playing golf and he was in the buggy, not walking, taking it easy.

“That break he had when he damaged his face will have done him the world of good.

“I always say it, he’s never had a rest for three years. He plays every game for Celtic and Scotland.

“That’s because he’s damn good. He’s such a big player for Celtic.

“What has happened to him will happen to the other lads as well.

“This rest we are having in the weeks now, because we are out of Europe, it’s been brilliant.

“We had three games a week and we were knackered.”

Celtic are next in league action against Ross County on Saturday (19 March).

They remain three points clear of Rangers at the top of the Premiership table.
