Leeds United news: Pundit issues verdict on Kalvin Phillips having head turned after Liverpool reveal

Kalvin Phillips will be fully focused on his job at Leeds United despite agents circling him, according to Gabby Agbonlahor.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-Aston Villa and England attacker insisted Phillips could still leave Elland Road this summer but will not let that distract him in the here and now.

A recruitment source told Football Insider last Wednesday (9 March) one leading agency has told the 25-year-old they will “get you to Liverpool”.

It comes after well-connected ex-Leeds defender Danny Mills told this site (6 March) Phillips was set to switch agents from Kevin Sharp.

There has been much speculation about the midfielder’s future whose contract is set to expire in the summer of 2024.

Phillips has been open about his desire to commit to fresh terms but negotiations over a new deal appear to have reached a stalemate.

“With someone like Kalvin Phillips, I don’t think it will turn his head – he’s a very young lad still,” Agbonlahor told Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley.

“Phillips and Declan Rice will play at a top-four club sooner or later. Will it be this summer or will it be next summer? Nobody knows.

“They’ve both got the quality but he will probably concentrate on his football. He can leave that stuff to others.”

Phillips has not signed a new contract with his boyhood club since the summer of 2019 after Leeds missed out on promotion in Marcelo Bielsa’s first season in charge.

The England international has played over 225 times for the Whites since his debut in 2015.
