Alexis MacAllister is the perfect fit for Liverpool’s midfield that needs revamping.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, former West Ham striker Frank McAvennie has claimed that MacAllister is an ideal signing, but more reinforcements are still needed.

The Argentine joined the Reds what is understood to be for an initial fee of around £35m according to Sky Sports.

Mac Allister represents a strong start to Liverpool’s plans to fix their midfield after a disappointed 2022-23 campaign ended without a trophy or Champions League qualification.

The 24-year-old, who played a key role in Argentina’s World Cup win in Qatar last year, has emerged as a standout performer for Brighton across the 112 appearances he has made following a move to the club in January of 2019.

He helped the Seagulls qualify for European competition for the first time in their history this season courtesy of a sixth-placed Premier League finish.

Despite the signing of MacAllister, McAvennie believes Liverpool will still to strengthen the midfield.

“Liverpool will need another player alongside MacAllister,” He told Football Insider.

“Jordan Henderson is coming to the end of his tenure, but of course he will still be useful as captain and to come on from the bench.

“Henderson won’t be able to play all the time, but will still be able to offer the experience.

“I like MacAllister, it’s an incredible signing – he was great to watch at the World Cup and the way he did the running behind Lionel Messi was excellent to see.
