Sources: Ex-Liverpool star Georginio Wijnaldum opens talks to rejoin Feyenoord

Former Liverpool star Georginio Wijnaldum has opened talks to rejoin Feyenoord, sources have told Football Insider.

Paris Saint-Germain are willing to accept an offer for the 32-year-old midfielder this summer.

Wijnaldum only has one year remaining on the three-year contract he signed when signing for the French giants in 2021.

The Dutch international spent the 2022/23 season on loan at Roma, but the Europa League finalists have decided not to trigger the option in his loan deal.

It is understood that Feyenoord are now looking to seal a deal that would bring Wijnaldum back to the team where he started his career.

Negotiations between both parties are underway over a summer deal.

Wijnaldum first joined Feyenoord in 2004 when he joined the club’s academy, and three years later he was promoted to the senior squad.

He made 135 appearances for the club over a four-year spell, scoring 25 goals and providing 11 assists. He helped the side win the KNVB Cup in 2008.

Stints at PSV and Newcastle United followed before Wijnaldum made a £25million move to Liverpool and spent five years at Anfield between 2016 and 2021.

He won the Premier League, Champions League, Uefa Super Cup and Fifa Club World Cup during his time in Merseyside.

Wijnaldum made 237 appearances for the Reds, scoring 22 times and assisting 16 goals.

His game time drastically decreased following his move to Paris, and his loan at Roma has been heavily affected by injuries with a fractured tibia and a hamstring injury keeping him sidelined for the majority of the Serie A campaign.
