Liverpool to make formal move for Romeo Lavia this week after 'positive talks' - sources

Liverpool are expected to make a formal move for Romeo Lavia this week, sources have told Football Insider.

Lavia has held positive conversations with the club ahead of a potential move.

On Saturday (22 July), Football Insider revealed that the Reds have been in regular contact with Southampton over a deal for the 19-year-old and were hopeful of securing an agreement by the end of the month.

Football Insider has now learned that the Reds could make a move for Lavia by the start of next week.

The Saints are holding out for £50m for Lavia as his former club Man City will be entitled to 20 per cent of any fee received for his services whilst Liverpool are not keen to pay above £40m for the player.

The Merseysiders also face strong competition from Arsenal and Chelsea in their pursuit of the midfielder but are growing in confidence that Lavia will choose to join them.

It is believed Lavia has been extremely convinced by the Liverpool project that has been sold to him by the club’s recruitment team.

Jurgen Klopp is desperate for reinforcements in midfield, particularly now with the potential departure of Fabinho and Jordan Henderson who have both agreed mega-money deals with Saudi Arabian clubs.

Liverpool have already added Brighton’s Alexis Mac Allister and RB Leipzig’s Dominik Szoboszlai to their midfield ranks but it is believed Klopp wants to add two more after a disappointing season last term.
