Sources: Jose Cifuentes set to join Rangers immediately after U-turn

Rangers are set to complete the signing of Jose Cifuentes this week after fast-tracking an agreement, sources have told Football Insider.

Cifuentes has already agreed a pre-contract with the Ibrox club that would see him join in January following the expiration of his deal at Los Angeles FC.

But the Gers are very close to an agreement that would bring him to the Scottish club in the current window and are expected to have a deal completed this week.

Michael Beale has been desperate to sign the midfielder.

On 21 July, Football Insider revealed that Rangers have been closing in on a deal for Cifuentes after holding further talks with LAFC.

The sides have been ironing out the details over the playmaker’s exact release fee and have been in advanced talks for a number of days.

Football Insider first revealed the Gers’ interest in Cifuentes back in April when he was also a top target for Premier League and La Liga sides.

Leeds United and Espanyol were also keen on the Ecuador international but Rangers are the firm favourites to land his signature.

Cifuentes has already netted two goals and offered up five assists for LAFC in 26 appearances this season and the club are currently second in the MLS’ Western Conference League.

The centre-mid joined LAFC from Ecuadorian side CD Universidad Catolica in 2020 and has made 121 appearances across all competitions since his arrival.

Cifuentes has netted 15 goals and offered up five assists in those outings.
