Sources: Rangers close in on Jose Cifuentes deal after breakthrough in talks

Rangers are closing in on a deal for Los Angeles FC midfielder Jose Cifuentes, sources have told Football Insider.

The Gers have been working on bringing CIfuentes for some time and now look to be close to getting an agreement over the line.

Football Insider first revealed the Light Blues’ interest in the 24-year-old back in April when he was also attracting the attention of English Premier League clubs as well as newly relegated Leeds United and Spanish side Espanyol.

Michael Beale’s side have been in contact with the Ecuador international since then but were not the frontrunners in the battle for his signature.

But last month (12 June), Football Insider revealed that there had been a breakthrough in talks between the sides as they push forward with trying to secure a move for the midfielder whose current contract expires in Devember this year..

Beale has been enjoying a busy summer so far and the arrival of Cifuentes would be his seventh signing of the current window and the ninth addition since he took over at Ibrox last year (2022).

The Gers have already welcomed Kieran Dowell, Dujon Sterling, Jack Butland, Sam Lammers and Cyriel Dessers on permanent deals with Brighton’s Abdallah Sima joining on loan for the upcoming campaign.

Cifuentes‘ arrival would further strengthen Beale’s midfield that has already lost experienced players in Scott Arfield and Steven Davis following the expiration of their Ibrox contracts.

In other news, Sheffield Wednesday are plotting to sign former Rangers star striker this summer.
