Sources: Tottenham make move to sign Conor Gallagher after official talks - sources

Tottenham have joined West Ham in the race to sign Conor Gallagher this summer, sources have told Football Insider.

Chelsea are believed to be holding out for a fee of at least £40million to let Gallagher depart the club in the coming months.

On Tuesday (18 July), Football Insider revealed that the Hammers have opened official talks with their London rivals over a deal for the 23-year-old.

David Moyes is keen to add reinforcements in midfield following Declan Rice’s exit and the Irons opened negotiations with their London rivals at the weekend about a move for Gallagher.

The Hammers have been hopeful of getting a deal done for £30m but Mauricio Pochettino’s side are likely to hold out for the £40m mark.

They now face competition from fellow Londoners Tottenham in the hunt for the midfielder’s signature.

Gallagher‘s current contract at Chelsea runs until 2025 after penning an extension last year following a successful loan spell with Crystal Palace in the 2021-22 season.

The midfielder made 45 appearances across all competitions last season, netting one goal and offering up one assist.

He was in the starting lineup for less than half of those outings.

Chelsea are open to letting the England international depart the club this summer but are looking to secure their own midfield targets before sanctioning a sale.

The Stamford Bridge club are confident of securing a deal for Brighton star Moises Caicedo after he agreed personal terms, as exclusively revealed by Football Insider (13 July).

The Londoners are closing in on a deal worth £80m in total for the sought after midfielder.
