Sources: Arsenal preparing new Romeo Lavia move after star agrees terms
Arsenal are preparing a new move for Southampton star Romeo Lavia, sources have told Football Insider.
As Thomas Partey closes in on a move to Saudi Arabia, the Gunners are now expected to push Liverpool all the way in the race for the 19-year-old this summer.
Lavia is believed to be a big fan of Mikel Arteta and has given the green light to the move following positive conversations with the London club.
According to reports in Saudi Arabia (15 July), Partey has agreed terms with an unnamed club in the region as he edges closer to leaving the Emirates.
The 30-year-old still has two years left to run on his contract with the London club after signing from Atletico Madrid in 2020.
Arsenal forked out the entirety of Partey’s £45million release clause to bring him to the Emirates and he has been a staple member of the midfield in recent seasons.
Last week (8 July), Football Insider revealed that Liverpool are confident Lavia wants to join them ahead of other suitors this summer.
They Merseysiders are in talks to bring the midfielder to Anfield this summer but face tough competition from Arsenal as well as fellow Premier League giants Chelsea.
The Reds are only willing to offer around £40m for Lavia with Southampton believed to be holding out for a fee of around £50m for their star man, despite their relegation to the Championship.
The Saints are keen to maximise the value for Lavia whilst he is the subject of so much interest particularly since former club Man City will be entitled to 20 per cent of any fee as part of their sell on clause.
In other news, Liverpool turn attention to signing Crystal Palace star to replace Fabinho.
