Sources: Major update today on Man United bid to sign Andre Onana

Andre Onana has agreed personal terms with Man United as he closes in on what would be a big-money transfer, sources have told Football Insider.

The Red Devils are pushing to finalise a deal with Inter Milan with further discussions taking place between the clubs on Thursday.

Erik ten Hag is in the market for a new shot-stopper after David de Gea confirmed his exit from Old Trafford following the expiration of his contract.

Onana has been top of Ten Hag’s list to replace De Gea, as first reported by Football Insider earlier this month (1 July).

The United boss knows the Cameroon international from their time together at Ajax and the pair are believed to have a good relationship.

Onana’s distribution and ability to read the game is seen as a big upgrade on De Gea who, despite winning the 2022-23 Golden Glove, made a number of high-profile errors.

Alternative goalkeeping option Dean Henderson’s future at the club is also uncertain.

The 26-year-old has spent the majority of his Man United career out on loan and enjoyed a successful spell at Nottingham Forest last season before picking up an injury that he is still recovering from.

On Tuesday (11 June), Football Insider revealed that United are hesitant to sanction a move for the England international until they resolve their goalkeeper situation.

Onana made 41 appearances across all competitions for Inter last term and kept 19 clean sheets, conceding just 36 goals in those outings.

The 27-year-old was part of the Inter squad that made it to the Champions League final, only to narrowly miss out on the trophy after a 1-0 defeat to Man City.
