Revealed: Klopp to intervene on Friday as Liverpool finalise sensational Moises Caicedo hijack

Moises Caicedo is poised to undergo a Liverpool medical on Friday after they reached an agreement with Brighton to sign him for a British record £110m, sources have told Football Insider.

In an astonishing twist to the Caicedo summer-long transfer saga, the Merseysiders are on the verge of blowing Chelsea out of the water to land him in the coming days.

Brighton held an auction for the midfield anchorman with a midnight cut-off on Thursday. Liverpool’s bid proved to be the highest, comfortably beyond the £100m submitted by Chelsea, news of which was reported by Football Insider early on Thursday.

A medical for Caicedo is now planned for Friday and he has been granted permission to discuss personal terms with Liverpool.

Jurgen Klopp is also set to speak to the midfielder early on Friday to explain how he fits into his team’s plans and the club’s plan for his development over the coming season.

Personal terms are not expected to be a problem as Klopp’s team put the finishing touches to a deal that would not only break their own transfer record, which was the £75m they paid Southampton for Virgil van Dijk in 2018, but smash the British record £106m Chelsea paid for Enzo Fernandez in January.

The fee would also eclipse the £105m including add-ons Arsenal recently paid to West Ham for Declan Rice and would vindicate Brighton’s stance of holding out for such a high fee for their prize asset.

Football Insider exclusively revealed on 2nd August that Liverpool had been in contact with Brighton to register their interest in Caicedo as they looked to strengthen in midfield.

The pressure on the club’s recruitment team to get a deal done has increased after Fabinho departed to Al Ittihad.

Liverpool have had multiple bids for Southampton’s Romeo Lavia knocked back, and they have more than doubled those offers to push a deal for Caicedo over the finish line.

Klopp is short on midfield options after, in addition to Fabinho, losing Jordan Henderson, Naby Keita, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and James Milner this summer.

Intriguingly, Chelsea face Liverpool in their opening Premier League match of the season this weekend.
