Revealed: Newcastle United on track to land £6m windfall

Newcastle United are on track to earn around £6million from their pre-season tournament at St James’ Park, Football Insider can reveal.

The Magpies announced earlier this month (7 July) that they will host the inaugural ‘Sela Cup’ this summer.

The pre-season tournament is set to include Newcastle, Villarreal, Nice and Fiorentina in a round-robin format.

All games will be played at St James’ Park over the weekend of August 5 and 6, with a clash between Newcastle Women and West Brom Women also taking place on Saturday afternoon.

Newcastle are selling day tickets at £30 for adults or a weekend ticket for £55, and they are on track to sell out St James’ Park on both days.

Overall, Football Insider analysis expects Newcastle to pocket around £6million from their pre-season project.

That sum includes ticket sales, additional matchday revenue from stadium facilities and sponsorship fees from Sela and VisitMalta.

Saudi Arabian event organisers Sela signed a £25million-per-year front-of-shirt deal with Newcastle this summer and will be heavily included in the planning of the event.

VisitMalta have paid a small fee to become the event sponsor for the Sela Cup and are set to be granted stadium branding at St James’ Park over the weekend.

Prior to the Sela Cup in August, Newcastle are set to compete in the Premier League’s Summer Series in the United States.

Their US tour includes matches against Aston Villa, Chelsea and Brighton before they jet back to Tyneside at the end of July.
