Sources: Man United told new Everton price for Branthwaite - and it's not what they expected

Everton have told Man United they want £25million for Jarrad Branthwaite, sources have told Football Insider.

The giant defender wants to quit Goodison Park before the window shuts and is on the radar of multiple Premier League clubs after an impressive season on loan at PSV Eindhoven.

United have made an enquiry for Branthwaite as they look to sign a left-sided centre-back amid doubts over Harry Maguire’s future.

But, in a shock twist, Everton have pushed up the asking price for the 21-year-old, who they valued at just £6million a few months ago.

Now, the Merseysiders want £25million for a player who has made just 13 appearances for their first team.

Intriguingly, Everton are in the race for former Man United skipper Maguire – along with West Ham, Tottenham and Chelsea.

Football Insider revealed on Thursday (3 August) that the Toffees have leapfrogged their Premier League rivals in the race for the England star’s signature.

Branthwaite has returned to pre-season training with Everton after spending last season out on loan at PSV Eindhoven.

He played a big part during his spell at the club, making 37 appearances across all competitions and notching four goals and two assists.

The defender lifted the Dutch Cup during his time in the Netherlands.

Other loans at Blackburn and Carlisle have seen Branthwaite play just a handful of games.

His contract at Goodison Park, which is worth a reported £15,000-a-week, is set to expire in June 2025.

Football Insider revealed on 17 June that West Ham also launched an enquiry for the Everton defender.

Branthwaite could be part of the Toffees side to face Fulham in the Premier League on 12 August with Conor Coady and Yerry Mina both departing the club in June.
