Sources: Leeds United now want 'huge' signing from Man City and Liverpool

Man City youngster Taylor Harwood-Bellis and Liverpool’s Nathaniel Phillips are among the defender targets for Leeds United, sources have told Football Insider.

Both players are unlikely to see regular first-team action at their respective clubs in the 2023-24 campaign, and as such, it is believed the Whites are ready to try and lure them to Elland Road.

A well-placed source has told Football Insider that centre-back reinforcements are a “huge priority” for Leeds in the final month of the window.

The Championship side have already lost Max Wober, Robin Koch and Diego Llorente since relegation from the Premier League in May.

Ethan Ampadu, Charlie Cresswell, Pascal Struijk and Liam Cooper are the current centre-back options for Daniel Farke ahead of the season opener against Cardiff on Sunday (6 August).

Farke is keen to strengthen those options with less than a month of the summer window remaining.

Harwood-Bellis spent last season on loan at Burnley and made 35 appearances as a regular starter as the Clarets earned instant promotion back to the Premier League.

The England Under-21 international has spent much of his senior career out on loan, racking up close to 100 appearances in spells at Anderlecht, Burnley, Stoke and Blackburn.

He has turned out for Man City’s senior side on just eight occasions.

Meanwhile, Phillips is under contract at Anfield for two more years.

He made five appearances for Liverpool across all competitions last season, playing a total of 232 minutes of football.

The 26-year-old has turned out 29 times for the Reds since coming through the youth ranks.

Phillips made 18 appearances on loan at Bournemouth in the second half of the 2021-22 campaign, helping them gain promotion.
