Sources: West Ham star Gianluca Scamacca agrees Atalanta move after breakthrough

West Ham star Gianluca Scamacca has agreed a permanent move to Atalanta, sources have told Football Insider.

A deal between the sides has been agreed and is expected to be finalised by Monday nights (7 August).

Following the breakthrough in talks, Atalanta now set to win the race for his signature ahead of Italian rivals Inter Milan and Roma.

Last week (30 July), Football Insider revealed that the 24-year-old was not expected to play for the Hammers again.

Scamacca had agreed terms with Roma on a loan-to-buy deal but West Ham had not agreed a fee with the Italian side.

The Italian’s current contract runs until 2027 following his arrival from Sassuolo in 2022 for a fee of £35.5million.

The forward struggled in his debut season last term in a campaign that was disrupted by injuries and David Moyes’ side have told Scamacca that he is free to go this summer.

Although the striker netted six goals in a Europe Conference League campaign that saw the Hammers ultimately lift the trophy, he netted just three in 16 Premier League appearances.

The Londoners are also on the verge of losing fellow attacker Michail Antonio this summer.

As revealed by Football Insider (31 July), the 33-year-old had been closing in on a move to Steven Gerrard’s Saudi Pro League side Al Ettifaq but the move has been put on hold after the Saudi side captured hitman Moussa Dembele on a free transfer.

Antonio has less than one year remaining on his contract at the London Stadium and is believed to be keen to move on in the coming months.
