Sources: Nottingham Forest deadline revealed as players threaten legal action
Nottingham Forest will face legal action from players and agents if bonuses and commissions aren’t paid by the end of August, Football Insider understands.
As first revealed by the Daily Mail, Forest owe millions to players in the form of overdue payments.
The Premier League side reportedly owes bonus payments to players who have left the club this summer, including survival bonuses.
Agents of players are also considering legal action after failing to receive commission payments on transfers.
Football Insider understands that Forest have informed players and former players that bonuses will be paid in full by August 31.
Forest owner Evangelos Marinakis oversaw an unprecedented number of signings last year, with the newly-promoted side bringing in 30 new players over both transfer windows.
Those signings have left the club with a huge amount of agent fees to be paid, while a large majority of players are set to be rewarded for avoiding relegation.
Forest achieved a 16th-placed finish in 2022/23 after Steve Cooper’s side bounced back from a poor start to the campaign.
The East Midlands side have already begun to clear out their squad this summer, with seven players leaving for free.
Forest’s spending has drastically decreased, but Manchester United’s Anthony Elanga still made the switch to the City Ground this summer for a £15million fee.
Steve Cooper has also added Chris Wood to his side on a permanent basis, while Sam Surridge’s £5million sale to MLS side Nashville is the only money Forest have received from player sales this summer.
Should bonuses fail to be paid by the end of August, legal action and winding-up petitions could be filed against the club.
