Sadio Mane: Update on Liverpool potentially re-signing Bayern star after confession to friends - sources

Liverpool have no plans to bring Sadio Mane back to the club amid suggestions that his unhappy stint at Bayern Munich is set to end after just one season, sources have told Football Insider.

The Senegalese brought the curtain down on six trophy-laden years at Anfield last summer in order to seek a fresh challenge with the Bundesliga champions.

However, he has struggled during his debut campaign in Bavaria and, according to fresh reports from Germany, does not feature in new boss Thomas Tuchel’s long-term plans.

That news will doubtless lead to speculation that a reunion with Jurgen Klopp could be on the cards for Mane as he looks to get his career back on track.

Football Insider revealed in November that the Senegal great pines for his old club, and has privately admitted to friends that “I miss Liverpool and miss the Premier League”.

But Football Insider understands that Liverpool’s recruitment staff have no interest in bringing the winger back to the club this summer.

They consider the Reds’ attack to be well-stocked in attack following the additions of Darwin Nunez and Cody Gakpo across the last two transfer windows.

And the focus for the upcoming summer will instead be on rebuilding a midfield that has fallen well short of its usual standards across this season.

Mane has scored 12 goals in 37 appearances for Bayern this season but missed four months of action due to a knee injury that cost him a place in Senegal’s World Cup squad.

The 31-year-old has also faced disciplinary issues in Bavaria, with the club suspending him for one match over an angry dressing room clash with teammate Leroy Sane following defeat to Manchester City in the Champions League.

Bayern CEO Oliver Kahn recently said of the forward’s mixed form: “He’s still in search of himself a little.

“He’s a player that needs a lot of encouragement. He’s not used to the type of competition for places we have here. It wasn’t like that at Liverpool.

“We hope he will come through for us sooner or later.”

Meanwhile, Liverpool’s Premier League rivals are plotting a summer swoop for Mane.
