Sources: Liverpool delegation in Spain after unexpected Jurgen Klopp decision

Liverpool will return from a surprise trip to Spain on Tuesday after enjoying a three-day break from training ahead of the Premier League run-in, sources have told Football Insider.

Jurgen Klopp and his squad flew out to Barcelona immediately after claiming a sixth consecutive league victory in beating Brentford at Anfield on Saturday.

And they will head back to England on Tuesday in order to begin preparations for a trip to face struggling Leicester City next Monday.

Football Insider understands that Klopp’s players have not taken part in any training sessions during their stay in mainland Europe, with the focus instead placed on rest after a busy period.

It is hoped that this opportunity to reset will prove helpful as Liverpool look to finish off a forgettable season with nine wins on the spin.

Remarkably, such a run could even see them claim an unlikely Champions League spot after results went in their favour over the weekend.

The Reds’ top-four rivals Newcastle and Manchester United suffered defeats to Arsenal and West Ham respectively on Sunday, putting a dent in their previously significant points advantage.

Both still have a game in hand over Klopp‘s men, but are under pressure to make that count before their aforementioned meeting with Leicester next Monday.

Newcastle will kick off the weekend’s fixtures by heading to Leeds United, who will hope to experience a new manager bounce from the recent appointment of Sam Allardyce.

United, meanwhile, host a Wolves side that should be able to play with freedom after essentially securing their safety with a win over Midlands rivals Aston Villa.

Dropped points for either would give Liverpool renewed hope of a late run on Champions League qualification such as the one they pulled off in an injury-hit 2021-22 campaign.

In other news, Liverpool have cooled their interest in Brighton midfielder Moises Caicedo.
