Hutton makes Dessers signing claim after Rangers talks reveal

Rangers will struggle to beat Serie A sides to Cyriel Dessers’ signature.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, former Gers defender Alan Hutton said that the Italian top flight is a “stronger” league than the Scottish Premiership.

On 12 June, Football Insider revealed that the Light Blues have been pursuing a deal to sign the Cremonese striker and have been in talks with the 28-year-old.

The forward has been on the club’s shortlist for some time and a fee of £5million could seal the deal to bring him to Glasgow.

His current contract in Italy runs until 2027 after putting pen to paper on a deal with Cremonese and leaving Genk last summer.

According to Italian outlet Calciomercato (20 June), Dessers would prefer to stay in Italy and has reportedly said no to the Gers.

But Hutton suggested staying in Italy might not be the best move for the Nigeria international.

If you are talking about a team that is going to fight relegation then it is not a better option,” he told Football Insider.

Yes potentially you are in a stronger league but you could get relegated.

We are talking about a team in Rangers that although are maybe in a smaller league, they are in Europe, they fight for trophies year in year out, they play in front of 50,000 fans which you probably don’t get in Italy.

It depends how you weigh it up.
