Sources: Major update on Nottingham Forest signing Dean Henderson

Nottingham Forest are hopeful of securing the permanent signing of Man United goalkeeper Dean Henderson, sources have told Football Insider.

It is believed Steve Cooper’s side have presented a deal to the Red Devils as they look to kick off their summer business.

Henderson, 26, spent the 2022-23 campaign on loan at the City Ground and was the first-choice shot-stopper before an injury curtailed his season.

The England international kept six clean sheets in 20 games before suffering a thigh injury in January which proved season-ending.

He successfully underwent surgery on the problem earlier this month and is expected to return to action in time for the start of the 2023-24 campaign.

Henderson’s contract at Man United, which nets him a reported £100,000-a-week, is set to expire in June 2025.

He hit out at the Red Devils as he left for Forest last summer (2022), slamming the “criminal” treatment which saw him “waste 12 months” of his career during the 2021-22 campaign.

Football Insider revealed on 29 April that Man United are in the market for a new goalkeeper this summer – a move which points towards a potential exit for Henderson.

The 26-year-old has made 67 Premier League appearances in total across spells with the Red Devils, Sheffield United and Nottingham Forest.

Forest moved to add experienced shot-stopper Keylor Navas on loan in the January window following news of Henderson’s layoff, but he is now set to return to parent club Paris Saint-Germain.

Cooper’s side secured Premier League survival in their first season back in the top flight after promotion last summer (2022).

The big-spending Midlands side finished 16th in the table – four points clear of the drop zone.
