Revealed: Scott McTominay tells friends he wants to quit Man United

Scott McTominay has told friends he wants to leave Man United this summer for the good of his career, sources have told Football Insider.

The 26-year-old has dropped down the Old Trafford pecking order and has started just four Premier League matches since September.

McTominay wants regular playing time while at the peak of his career, and he fears the club are planning to sign another central midfielder this summer.

Football Insider revealed last month (7 April) that Man United want to sign Bayern Munich loanee Marcel Sabitzer on a permanent deal this summer.

Manager Erik ten Hag has also consistently overlooked McTominay in central midfield in favour of Casemiro and Cristian Erikssen, who paired up again for Thursday’s 4-1 win over Chelsea.

West Ham and Newcastle are among the clubs keeping tabs on the situation of the United stalwart, who progressed to the first team after first joining the youth academy in 2002.

McTominay’s future is up in the air at a time when his contract runs until the summer of 2025, with the option of a further 12 months.

He has made 37 appearances across all competitions for United this season, but his Premier League minutes have been limited to just 1,126 .By contrast, McTominay had 2,392 minutes of Premier League action last season.

The Scotland international has 1,658 minutes in all competitions this term, little more than half of his 3,002 minutes in 2021-22.
