Sources: Nottingham Forest to use Brennan Johnson money for two January signings

Nottingham Forest are keen to add two signings in forward areas in the January transfer window, sources have told Football Insider.

It is believed the Midlands club are ready to sign both an out-and-out striker and winger in the new year.

Forest sold Brennan Johnson to Tottenham for a reported fee of £47.5million on transfer deadline day in September, and funds from that deal are likely to be made available in January.

Forest boss Steve Cooper will now be backed once again in the transfer market if he remains in charge at the City Ground into the new year.

Football Insider revealed on Monday (27 November) that pressure is growing for Cooper following the 3-2 loss against Brighton on Saturday (25 November).

The need for a striker has arisen after a serious injury to Nigeria international Taiwo Awoniyi, who has undergone groin surgery.

He had notched four goals and two assists in 10 Premier League appearances prior to that injury – which is expected to keep him out long-term.

Forest have now won just one of their last nine games and sit 14th in the Premier League table.

The Midlands club want to bolster their winger options after failing to do so following Johnson’s late-window exit.

Football Insider revealed on Monday (27 November) that Newcastle United winger Jacob Murphy is attracting interest from Cooper’s side.

It is believed Forest and Crystal Palace have made enquiries about his price tag and availability as the new year approaches.

Nottingham Forest are next in action against Everton on Saturday (2 December) before a packed festive schedule which sees them face the likes of Newcastle, Man United and Tottenham before the new year.
