Kieran Maguire reveals how much Nottingham Forest will profit from new stadium plan

Nottingham Forest will receive less than £1million per year by expanding the capacity of the City Ground.

That is the opinion of finance expert Kieran Maguire, who spoke exclusively to Football Insider about the financial benefits of Forest’s stadium plan.

As reported by The Athletic, Forest have drawn up plans to expand their stadium’s capacity to over 30,000.

The new temporary seating area will be built on shipping containers modelled after the Stadium 974 used in the Qatar World Cup.

Forest owner Evangelos Marinakis is trying to match the increased demand for tickets since the club’s promotion to the Premier League in 2022.

The club revealed matchday revenue of £8.7million in their latest 2021/22 accounts while in the Championship.

Maguire believes the City Ground expansion will only produce an extra £750,000 per year in revenue for Forest.

One fan for Nottingham Forest is probably worth somewhere in the region of £600 to £700,” Maguire told Football Insider’s Sean Fisher.

Once you do the sums with the extra fans included, the expansion is probably worth an extra £750,000.

One extra place in the Premier League table is worth £3million.

So Forest will have to welcome an additional 4,000 fans to match the difference between finishing 14th and 13th.

So they will sell out as they have a fantastic fan base, but financially this is not going to move the dial.

They are also corner seats so they’re not going to be prime value seats sold at premium prices.
