Hutton makes 'scary' Rangers claim after Celtic failure

Rangers failing to close the gap on Celtic is the biggest disappointment from their 1-1 draw against Aberdeen on Sunday (26 November).

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, former Gers and Scotland defender Alan Hutton claimed the club must be more decisive in the final third.

James Tavernier secured a solitary point from the brink of defeat with a 94th-minute penalty at Pittodrie after Bojan Miovski gave the Dons an early lead.

The afternoon before, Brendan Rodgers’ side were unable to see out their win after Motherwell’s Jonathan Obika equalised just four minutes after David Turnbull’s strike in the 86th minute, meaning the Gers failed to catch up with the top-of-the-table Hoops.

Hutton fears the consequences of Rangers’ missed opportunity but admitted that Aberdeen away is a tough fixture for any side.

“Rangers left it very late,” he told Football Insider.

“I thought they had a few scares, obviously it was scary earlier on in the game. Butland with a big save too but overall they did okay.

“They needed to be much more clinical in the final third. They made a lot of opportunities like Balogun hitting the bar, Lawrence hitting the bar.

“They have to be better in the final third but it’s always a difficult place to go.

“Probably the most disappointing thing for Rangers was the opportunity to close the gap on Celtic.

“They’ve not managed to do that this time round. You don’t know how many chances you’re going to get to do that.”
