Sources: Crystal Palace plot January move to sign George Nevett

Crystal Palace are plotting a January move for highly-rated Rochdale teenager George Nevett, sources have told Football Insider.

Nevett, 17, has attracted the interest of several Premier League clubs following his emergence in Rochdale’s first team.

The talented centre-back made his senior debut on the final day of last season against Sutton United in League Two and he has gone on to become a regular in the new campaign.

Nevett has made 18 appearances for Rochdale in the National League so far this season, and his performances have seen scouts from higher up the football pyramid flock to watch him in action.

Crystal Palace are hoping to steal a march on their Premier League rivals by firming up their interest in the Wales Under-19 international when the transfer window reopens in January.

Palace are eager to build a strong base of youth in their academy set-up by signing young players who they can eventually develop into first-team players at Selhurst Park.

Rochdale are resigned to losing Nevett with the club unlikely to be able to reject a sizeable offer for the teenager or stand in the player’s way of moving to the Premier League.

Palace already have several impressive youngsters on the books at Selhurst Park, including Jesurun Rak-Sakyi and Malcolm Ebiowei.

Eberechi Eze, Michael Olise and Marc Guehi are among the Eagles’ most impressive imports in recent years.

Roy Hodgson’s side sit 12th in the Premier League following their 1-1 draw against West Ham on Sunday (3 December).

The Selhurst Park outfit are next in action against Bournemouth on Wednesday (6 December).
