Evan Ferguson will quit Brighton after source's Man United update - 'I have no doubt', says pundit
Evan Ferguson will “no doubt” leave Brighton amid his links to Man United.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, former England and Tottenham goalkeeper Paul Robinson hailed the 19-year-old’s excellent form this season and insisted he will leave the south coast for a Champions League team.
As revealed by Football Insider (15 November), the Red Devils are big admirers of the Republic of Ireland international despite him penning a new Seagulls contract earlier this season.
The centre-forward announced himself as a prolific goalscorer last season at Brighton but has emerged as a highly sought-after player under Roberto De Zerbi with five Premier League goals this campaign including a hattrick against Newcastle.
Robinson does not foresee a move this season but claims United will be one of many “knocking at the door” for the hot prospect.
“Brighton have been very clever by tying Ferguson to a new deal,” he told Football Insider.
“It works for the player and it works for them. He carries huge value because he is a quality player.
“You listen to a lot of people who talk about strikers who note his all-round game, the impact that he has, the ability that he’s got and the quality finisher that he is.
“I have no doubt – and no disrespect to Brighton because they are a European club – but he will move onto bigger and better.
“He will move to a Champions League side – he’s that good. Whether that’s now or two or three years down the line, it will happen.
“Man United have invested heavily in Rasmus Hojlund, and I think that’s coming to fruition.
“You can see it with the goals he’s scored in the Champions League, he needs time and with good players around him and if he gets the service that he needs, he’s proven he can score and I think he will in the Premier League.
“They don’t need Ferguson at the moment, but if anyone could in the future then they won’t be the only ones knocking at the door.”
