Jacob Murphy: Newcastle slap £25m price on Nottingham Forest and Crystal Palace target - sources

Newcastle United will only allow winger Jacob Murphy to leave the club in January for a fee of around £20-25million, sources have told Football Insider.

Football Insider revealed on Monday (27 November) that Magpies star Murphy, 28, is attracting interest from Crystal Palace and Nottingham Forest.

It is believed both clubs have made enquiries about his price tag and availability as the new year approaches.

But a well-placed source has told Football Insider that Newcastle would have to receive an offer “too good to turn down” if they are to part with Murphy.

Additionally, the Englishman is happy at St James’ Park and has no desire to push for a move away in January.

The ex-Norwich star is under contract on Tyneside until June 2027 and earns a reported wage of £35,000-a-week.

Murphy has exclusively featured as a right winger this term but has also played on the left flank and as a right-back during his time at Newcastle.

The winger is one of a significant contingent of Eddie Howe’s players currently out of action after sustaining a shoulder injury last month.

Palace and Forest are both looking to bolster their attacking options in the mid-season window and have lined Murphy up as a potential target – but could find a deal too hard to do in January.

He has made nine appearances across all competitions so far this season, notching one goal and four assists.

Crystal Palace and Nottingham Forest sit 13th and 15th respectively in the Premier League table.

Meanwhile, Newcastle are seventh in the table after beating Chelsea 4-1 in their last top-flight fixture.
