Sources: Newcastle to reject offer for Nottingham Forest target Jacob Murphy
Newcastle United are unlikely to entertain any January offers for winger Jacob Murphy amid interest from Premier League clubs, sources have told Football Insider.
Football Insider revealed on Monday (27 November) that Murphy, 28, is attracting interest from Crystal Palace and Nottingham Forest ahead of the new year.
Both looking to bolster their attacking options in the mid-season window and have lined the Englishman up as a potential target.
But it is believed that will be a hard deal to do for Palace and Forest as Newcastle are unlikely to sanction an exit mid-season.
The Magpies have been hit by a range of injuries to top-performing stars in recent weeks.
Additionally, a well-placed source has told Football Insider that Murphy is “happy” at St James’ Park despite his fringe role on Tyneside.
He has emerged as a valuable squad player for Eddie Howe and can star in a number of positions.
Murphy has made nine appearances across all competitions this season – including 118 minutes in the Premier League – notching one goal and four assists.
The winger is under contract at St James’ Park until 2027 and earns a reported wage of £35,000-a-week.
He joined Newcastle from Norwich in 2017 for a reported fee of £12million and has gone on to make 158 appearances for the club.
Crystal Palace and Nottingham Forest sit 13th and 15th in the Premier League respectively.
Howe’s side sit seventh in the table and are playing Champions League football this season.
