Sources: Nottingham Forest and Crystal Palace make moves for Newcastle United star Jacob Murphy

Newcastle United winger Jacob Murphy is attracting interest from Crystal Palace and Nottingham Forest ahead of the January transfer window, sources have told Football Insider.

The 28-year-old has emerged as a valuable squad player for Eddie Howe and can star in a number of positions.

Palace and Forest are both looking to bolster their attacking options in the mid-season window and have lined Murphy up as a potential target.

It is believed both clubs have made enquiries about his price tag and availability as the new year approaches.

Murphy has made nine appearances across all competitions so far this season, notching one goal and four assists.

He is one of a significant contingent of Newcastle players currently out of action after sustaining a shoulder injury last month.

Murphy has exclusively featured as a right winger this term but has also played on the left flank and as a right-back during his time at St James’ Park.

He joined Newcastle from Norwich in 2017 for a reported fee of £12million.

The 28-year-old has made 158 appearances for the Magpies despite going out on loan to West Brom and Sheffield Wednesday during his time at the club.

However, he has established himself under Howe and has featured in the Champions League for the Tynesiders this season.

The winger is under contract at St James’ Park until 2027 and earns a reported wage of £35,000-a-week.

Nottingham Forest sit 14th in the Premier League under Steve Cooper and are keen to add reinforcements in the January window.

Crystal Palace are 13th in the table following their 2-1 loss against Luton on Saturday (25 November).
