Pundit drops 'unbelievable' Miguel Almiron claim after Newcastle latest - 'All of a sudden...'

Eddie Howe has made Miguel Almiron “unbelievable” for Newcastle United.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, former West Ham and Scotland striker Frank McAvennie hailed the Magpies boss for improving players he thought “would be off”.

The Paraguayan struggled under Rafa Benitez and Steven Bruce, but in 85 appearances for Howe, he has notched 18 goals and 4 assists in all competitions, including a Premier League spell last season where he scored eight goals in nine games.

Despite the riches that followed Howe’s appointment, Almiron has kept his place and regularly starts in the league and Europe including scoring the Magpies’ first Champions League goal in over 20 years in their 4-1 win over PSG.

McAvennie praised Howe for not spending “millions and millions” and using the players he already had to great effect.

“I think Howe is a good manager,” he told Football Insider.

“His stock is rising every day because of what he’s done to Newcastle. It would have been easy to walk in and just spend millions and millions.

“Get them on a seven-year contract and all that business, but he hasn’t, he’s worked for it.

“There were so many boys there that I thought would be off and all of a sudden Almiron – he’s unbelievable.

“Howe’s got that, he can make players better. There’s no doubt about the talent the players have but there’s a few players who won’t be there next year.

“I’m looking forward to keeping an eye on his journey.”
