Kylian Mbappe cited after 'incredible' Newcastle development - 'good luck...'

Frank McAvennie has insisted Newcastle United will struggle to repeat their “incredible” early-season heroics against Paris Saint-Germain at Parc des Princes next week.

The former Celtic and West Ham striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, suggested the Magpies were fortunate in the 4-1 reverse victory – with “everything aligning” for them to win.

Newcastle travel to Parc des Princes to face PSG on Tuesday (28 November) with their Champions League hopes in the balance.

The Magpies sit bottom of Group F following back-to-back losses against Borussia Dortmund both at home and away.

Eddie Howe’s side must pick up four points from their games against PSG and AC Milan to qualify for the knockout stages in the new year.

One point from the two games could be enough for the Tynesiders to progress to the knockout stages of the Europa League.

Newcastle have been plagued by a recent injury crisis which has affected top-performing stars such as Callum Wilson, Alexander Isak, Harvey Barnes, Javier Manquillo, Matt Targett, Sven Botman, Elliot Anderson, Jacob Murphy and Dan Burn out.

McAvennie told Football Insider: “I don’t think they’ll beat them again over there.

“I tell you what, the home game was an incredible one where everything aligned for Newcastle and they blew them out of the water.

“I don’t think that will happen to PSG again at home.

“The wee man, Mbappe, is on fire and scoring again regularly – I back Newcastle normally but good luck to them trying to keep him out.”

Mbappe scored his 14th league goal of the season in the 5-2 win over Monaco on Friday (24 November).

He has notched 16 goals in 16 club games across all competitions this season with PSG sitting top of Ligue 1.
