McAvennie slams Rangers for 'misleading' fans on January business - 'They're down millions'

Rangers are “misleading” fans regarding their profits and ability to sign players this January.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, former Celtic and Scotland striker Frank McAvennie insisted the Gers were “down millions” and are leading supporters to think they will operate in the market this winter.

The club announced earlier this month that they made an operating profit for the second consecutive year with £252,000 gained from an £83.3million turnover.

The Gers had a busy summer window and brought in eight players on permanent deals, including four free agents, for a reported £14.7million while making £9.7million from sales.

McAvennie slammed the “nonsense” claims made by the club and predicted a quiet winter window.

“I don’t think Rangers are going to be spending a lot of money in January,” he told Football Insider.

“I don’t think they can afford it. I really feel sorry for the Rangers supporters because the club are coming out with all this nonsense that they’ve made a profit.

“They’ve not made a profit, they’re millions down.

“The fans will be thinking the club are going to buy players now but they’ve not got the money.

“It’s just misleading and it’s a shame because Rangers don’t have to do it. They’ve been through more than most, so just be honest!”
