West Ham expert can't believe Vladimir Coufal 'sent home' after controversy

It was “not a crime” for West Ham star Vladimir Coufal to visit a nightclub with teammates whilst on international duty.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, former Hammers and Scotland striker Frank McAvennie suggested the ordeal, which saw the defender sent home from the Czech Republic squad, was blown out of proportion.

Coufal was spotted with fellow countrymen Jakub Brabec and Jan Kuchta at a nightclub before their Euro 2024 qualifier at home against Moldova.

The 31-year-old started his nation’s previous qualifier, a 1-1 draw against Poland where West Ham teammate Tomas Soucek scored the equaliser, but was send home with immediate effect as confirmed by the Czech FA.

His nation qualified for the tournament in his absence with a 3-0 win over Moldova, but McAvennie claims that Hammers fans will not be bothered by the controversy.

“Rules are meant to be broken,” he told Football Insider.

“He was out with two of his teammates having a drink – it’s not a crime!

“There are some boys out there that like to go for a beer. I don’t get [why he got sent home] I can’t believe it, to be honest.

“It won’t effect West Ham, that’s for sure. Fans won’t have a go at him for going out for a beer because I’ve seen it on social media.

“He’ll be welcomed! I went against it, I used to get in trouble on international breaks for doing that, so it’s not a crime.

“It’s a shame it’s getting highlighted but he’ll go back to West Ham and that’s it.”
