Sources: Big Sheffield United update on Chris Wilder's January kitty
Incoming Sheffield United boss Chris Wilder is looking for transfer funds to be made available in the January window, sources have told Football Insider.
As has been widely reported, Wilder is set to replace Paul Heckingbottom in the Bramall Lane hot seat with the Blades sitting bottom of the Premier League.
The 56-year-old is looking to bring new faces into his squad as he bids to keep Sheffield United in the top flight.
However, a well-placed source has told Football Insider that there won’t be “big money” available to Wilder in January.
It is believed that the ex-Watford boss, to some extent, will have his hands tied in the new year.
Wilder is returning to Bramall Lane after the end of his first spell in charge back in 2021.
Sheffield United’s owners have patched up their relationship with the 56-year-old after he was sacked as Blades manager back towards the end of the 2020-21 campaign.
Wilder was replaced by Heckingbottom but he couldn’t prevent the Yorkshire sides’ relegation.
The Blades returned to the top flight after finishing runners-up in the Championship last term, but a poor start to the new campaign has seen Heckingbottom lose his job.
Sheffield United, who sold star man Sander Berge and Illiman Ndiaye in the summer window, are bottom of the Premier League after their 5-0 loss against Burnley on Saturday (2 December).
Wilder faces his first game against Liverpool on Wednesday (6 December) with the Blades four points from safety.
